Where Does New York Rank Among the Best and Worst States for Working Moms?

WalletHub just released an interesting assessment of 2016’s Best & Worst States for Working Moms and for New York, coming in as the 13th worst isn’t music to moms’ ears to say the least. While women in general receive less pay for equal work than their male counterparts, it seems moms in the workforce face even greater challenges.

The WalletHub in-depth study analyzed 13 key metrics to determine the attractiveness of the 50 states and the District of Columbia to see which states rank best and which came in at the bottom for working moms in that area, measuring items including median salary, length of workday, gender pay gap, access to pediatric service, day-care quality, female unemployment rates, etc. In total, Vermont came out on top with Nevada at the very bottom of the overall ranking. New York came in at a less-than-impressive #39 (1 being best, 51 being worst).

With more moms in the workforce than ever before, with most having young children combined with being single moms, workplace inequality, child care costs, and work/life balance needs to be reconciled.

One item where New York shines, however, is when it comes to the best day care systems. That said, the costs for New Yorkers for child care are down at a low 47 of 51. What’s a mom to do? Visit WalletHub for the full listing of all metrics measured.
