'Fairy Island' New Pop-up Exhibit Debuts in NYC

An interactive pop up exhibit that portrays a dreamland for women debuted in Manhattan.

You go to work every day, you take the kids to soccer practice, maybe squeeze in a manicure or a workout class… but what do you really want? Fairy Island, a new and interactive pop up exhibit targeted at women, was created to help women explore their innermost desires.

The pop up, which opened in Midtown Manhattan this month, features magical multi-sensory installations themed around a grand imaginary dreamland that revolves around the deepest desires of six women who reside there.

The exhibit includes six rooms, one for each of the six women. For example, one of the inhabitants of the island is Daisy, and Daisy’s Secret Garden is one of the rooms in the exhibition. Daisy aspires to become a famous singer one day, but unfortunately, her family does not support her dreams. Thus, a heartbroken Daisy thus takes refuge in her secret garden, where she can be herself and sing with her guitar away from her parents’ oppositions.

The other five rooms in the Fairy Island are Melody’s Zootopia, Ester’s Observatory, Isabel’s Time Machine, Catherine’s 7-Eleven, and Joan’s Dressing Room. Each of these rooms has a story to tell about the character’s innermost desires and dreams.

“We know it’s a busy world today that hardly allows us the time to stand and stare. The burden is more for us women who have to tackle the professional and personal or domestic lives with equal élan. We are always so engrossed in our duties and listening to our folks that we can barely squeeze out some time for our passion, dreams and innermost desires,” said the founders in a statement. “Fairy Island is aimed to create an escape from the real world, a place that resembles the inner world of those who live in New York, working extremely hard every day for the pursuit of happiness and the American dream.”

The exhibit, located at 152 Lexington Ave, debuts on September 25 and will be open from 11 am to 9 pm on weekdays and from 10:30 am to 9:30 pm on weekends. Tickets are $22 on weekdays and $25 on weekends.
