    Family Treks 13,000 Miles to Shed Light on Natural Medicine

    From San Francisco to Bridgeport, Dr. Dennis Godby, along with his sons and nephew, ran coast to coast to educate Americans about natural health care options.

    On July 17, Dennis Godby, M.A., N.D., and his family set out from San Francisco on what would be a four-month trek across the country. The four men, including Dr. Godby's two sons and nephew, ran a total of 3,250 miles and jogged through 90 cities before crossing the finish line at the University of Bridgeport's natural medicine health fair on November 17.

    The Run: Moving Natural Medicine Forward, founded by Dr. Godby, is a public advocacy nonprofit that aims to raise awareness of sustainable and quality holistic health care options.



    "The American people have a right to know that they have options in their health care beyond pharmaceutical drugs and surgery," says Dr. Godby, a Sacramento, CA-based naturopathic doctor.

    The University of Bridgeport is a big proponent of naturopathic medicine, which is based on teaching patients about the innate healing abilities of their bodies through natural therapies.

    Dr. Godby and his sons, Jeremiah and Isaiah, and nephew Jonas Ely took only 16 days off from running throughout the four-month period, averaging about 30 miles a day. During the trip, the runners held 260 news conferences, reaching as many as 65 millions people throughout the U.S.
