The Best Places to See the Statue of Liberty from Brooklyn

The Best Places to See the Statue of Liberty from Brooklyn

Seeing the Statue of Liberty is a must on everyone’s bucket lists (yes, even those who grew up in Brooklyn!), but seeing Lady Liberty up-close may not be worth the hassle, price, or time when your little ones are in tow. We found the best, quickest, cheapest ways to view the Statue of Liberty from Brooklyn that are sure to keep your kids entertained—and let you snap an Insta-worthy photo!

Best Places to See the Statue of Liberty on Land

Brooklyn Bridge Park

334 Furman St. (Pier 1), Brooklyn Heights

Settled right next to the Brooklyn Bridge is the Brooklyn Bridge Park, an extremely fun, family-friendly park known for its beautiful views of the Manhattan skyline. If you head to Pier 1 or Pier 2, you will not only find those beautiful views of Manhattan, but you will also be able to see the Statue of Liberty while your children are playing, roller-skating, or running around on a grassy lawn.

Shore Road Park

Bay Ridge Ave, Bay Ridge

Located in Bay Ridge on the southernmost point of the Brooklyn waterfront, Shore Road Park is a quaint park that is perfect for a picnic. With great views of Manhattan, the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, Coney Island, Fort Hamilton’s Army Base, and the Statue of Liberty, you cannot go wrong with a quiet visit to the park. The long, narrow park stretches approximately 30 blocks between Shore Road and Belt Parkway. For the best view of the statue, head to American Veterans Memorial Pier, which is the northernmost point of the park, situated right next to Owl’s Head Park, home to a dog run, skate park, spray pool, and playground. The pier is also home to a stop on the New York ferry’s Rockaway route. Then continue down the park to see the beautiful Narrows Botanical Gardens as well as better views of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, connecting Staten Island to Brooklyn.

Bush Terminal Piers Park

Marginal Street, between 44 and 50 streets, Sunset Park

On the waterfront of Brooklyn’s Sunset Park neighborhood is Bush Terminal Park. The former port complex was turned into a public park just a few years ago. Now it welcomes visitors with its amazing views, soccer and baseball fields, and nature preserves.

Louis Valentino, Jr. Park and Pier

104 Ferris St., Red Hook

What was once a waterfront shipping yard, is now home to the beautiful Louis Valentino, Jr. Park and Pier. Named after a neighborhood firefighter and lifeguard, the park offers a unique view of Lady Liberty as you can see it straight on, rather than from the side (like with most other locations). Along with the Statue of Liberty, you can see Governors Island, the Manhattan Skyline, and Staten Island.

Pier 44 Waterfront Garden

290 Conover St., Red Hook

Loved by locals, the Pier 44 Waterfront Garden is a true hidden gem located in Red Hook that you will not be able to easily find on the map. This small park is home to The Waterfront Museum, housed on a 1914 barge. While you are here and looking at the beautiful views, be sure to check out Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pies or the Fairway Market of Red Hook.

Sunset Park

41 Street to 44 Street, between 5th and 7th avenues, Sunset Park

Located on the highest point of the Sunset Park neighborhood in the heart of Brooklyn, Sunset Park is one of the borough’s hidden gems. The park gives visitors a 360-degree view of the surrounding horizon including the Statue of Liberty, the Manhattan Skyline, Brooklyn neighborhoods, Staten Island, and New Jersey. Along with a grassy lawn, the park is home to a swimming pool, sand volleyball court, a pedestrian walkway, and a memorial remembering Sept. 11.

The Best Places to See the Statue of Liberty from the Water

IKEA Ferry

Pier 11/Wall Street, Lower Manhattan to 1 Beard St. (IKEA Dock), Red Hook

Taking you from Lower Manhattan to the city’s only IKEA, which is located in Brooklyn’s Red Hook neighborhood, you will get a slightly closer view of the statue, for a lower cost than other ferry rides in the area as tickets are only $5 for adults during the week and free on weekends. That being said, if you are planning on shopping at IKEA during the week and you spend over $10, your ferry ticket will get you a $5 credit. Though it goes between Governors Island and Brooklyn, not up close to the statue, it leaves approximately every 45 minutes and is a convenient way to get from one borough to another. If you are riding for the scenery, sit on the top deck for 360-degree views.

Fake, yet Photo Worthy

Brooklyn Museum

200 Eastern Parkway, Prospect Park

The Statue of Liberty’s shorter twin quietly sits in the sculpture garden of the Brooklyn Museum. Though it is not the real statue, it sure is less busy and much easier to get to than the one out in the harbor. The benefit of visiting this one? You get an up-close and personal view, with no traffic, and a better photo than you would anywhere else.
