Robotics and Coding for Birthday Parties at CulturePlay

CulturePlay, a technology center that offers STEM classes for kids on Long Island, now offers STEM-themed birthday parties for kids, including Minecraft parties and Lego Robotics parties.

CulturePlay opened in January as a technology community center where students in kindergarten through 12th grades can create and discover in an engaging and interactive environment, enhancing what they are learning in school. This year, it will begin offering birthday parties.

Some of CulturePlay’s most popular classes include Math with Minecraft, and Game Design. In Minecraft, a web-based virtual world, students safely play on a private server with guidance from instructors, building spaces and objects. The curriculum integrates coding and programming languages, such as Python, to teach coordinate geometry in a virtual space. Game Design is an introductory course for younger children, in which they use the Gamestar Mechanic program to play while simultaneously learning game-making skills. The program becomes increasingly difficult as the student progresses from game-player to game-maker.

Beginning this fall, CulturePlay will host birthday parties. The 2-hour events are customized versions of its most popular workshops—Lego Robotics and Minecraft—in which groups of kids can learn and celebrate together. Birthday parties also include group video game play and cake. Girl Scout and Brownie troops can also earn their technology badges at CulturePlay.

No technology experience necessary to enroll in a CulturePlay class. Students are grouped by grade and classes are customized to their individual levels. After-school and weekend courses run year-round, and most are 10-week sessions. Fall classes being Sept. 30, and kids can start anytime. Holiday courses and school vacation mini-camps also available.
