Legoland New York Reveals New Details About the Anticipated Goshen Theme Park

Legoland New York Reveals New Details About the Anticipated Goshen Theme Park

Season passes will be available for purchase later this spring.

UPDATED APRIL 1: Legoland New York, which announced its Goshen (Orange County) location in 2017, has decided to postpone it's grand opening to 2021 in response to the coronavirus. The theme park geared toward kids ages 2-12, located in the heart of the Hudson Valley, is going to be the biggest Legoland location, with more than 50 rides, shows, and attractions for families. We spoke with Matt Besterman, public relations manager of Legoland New York, to get in the inside scoop of the theme park, located just 60 miles northwest of New York City.

The Eight Lands of Legoland New York

While all Legoland locations are immersive experiences, Legoland New York is going to be the most immersive park yet, with several brand-new rides and attractions that are unique to New York, starting the moment you enter the park with The Factory, Besterman says. The Factory takes you, step by step, through the process of making Legos, but “we've really reimagined that for Legoland, New York. There's going to be a brand-new ride for New York, called A Great Lego Adventure, and it's going to make you feel as if you were shrunk down to the size of a Lego. …You're going to really experience the manufacturing process from the inside out,” ending up in a box in the hands of a child waiting to build with Lego bricks, Besterman says.

In addition to The Factory, Legoland New York will be made up of seven other lands:

  • Lego Ninjago gives aspiring ninjas a chance to master the ancient art of Spinjitzu and put their training to the test to help defeat the Great Devourer.

  • Lego City, home to the Minifigures, gives parkgoers the opportunity to be a Lego City firefighter and help save the day, or get their Legoland driver’s license at the Lego Driving School. It’s also home to restaurants, shops, and a theater.

  • Knights Kingdom is home of the Lego Castle, knights, princesses, wizards, and dragons, plus the Dragon Coaster, which is perfectly sized to give kids their first roller coaster experience.

  • Pirate Shores offers adventure for young buccaneers, with rides on Rogue Wave Riders, battle with water spouts, and more.

  • Miniland, at the heart of the theme park, is a massive panorama of cities from across the country built completely out of Legos, including the Statue of Liberty and Times Square. “You can walk through the Lego build New York City, you can see the subway move, you can see pedestrians on the street,” Besterman says. “Miniland, New York is going to have the more recent iconic buildings from New York City…and you won't find them anywhere else in the country.”

  • Heartlake City is the home of Lego Friends. Here, you’ll meet all the Lego Friends (Emma, Olivia, Stephanie, Andrea, and Mia), take a balloon ride over Pinefall Woods, and sample some of Granny’s Apple Fries.

  • Bricktopia allows visitors to work with Master Model Builders to build and test Lego creations. It’s “the area where you can really put Lego bricks to work and build anything that you can imagine. You can build tall towers on what's called an Earthquake Table. You can build a Lego car and race it,” Besterman says. “These attractions are designed for families to build and play and learn together.

Legoland Hotel

“And for the first time ever, we're opening a 250-room hotel at the same time that the park opens. So it's going to be a day or several-day destination for families with children from all over the area,” Besterman says.

Like Legoland New York, the hotel is completely Lego-themed, and it offers four different rooms: Lego Ninjago, Pirate, Castle, and Lego Friends. All rooms will have separate sleeping areas for kids and adults, each room is equipped with Lego bricks for building, and kids can watch The Lego Movie anytime they want, 27/7, Besterman says. There’s even a scavenger hunt throughout the hotel.

Special Details About Legoland New York

For those city dwellers without cars, Coach USA is planning offer direct bus service from Port Authority to Legoland New York “to make it easier for families from this area to get to it,” Besterman says.

Legoland New York will be open seasonally (spring to fall), while Legoland Hotel will be open year-round, making it a great destination for families who want to explore the area, Besterman says.

Annual passes, which Bestermand says comes with special perks, for Legoland New York will go on sale this spring, and a grand opening date for the theme park will be announced later this year.
