The Discovery Museum Launches Wonder Workshops Series for Kids By Milana Vernikova March 17, 2015 Get can’t-miss family activities sent to you! Subscribe The Discovery Museum & Planetarium, a museum for kids in Connecticut, is launching a new series of educational workshops for kids, including a Lego workshop series and art workshops. Kids can discover the laws of physics at the Get Physical! exhibit. The Discovery Museum & Planetarium in Bridgeport is adding multiple new workshops and exhibits for kids this spring, including an adventure science exhibit and weekend Lego robotics classes. Beginning April 11, future engineers will build models and animate them using basic robotics tools during a four-week series of Lego WeDo workshops. Held on Saturdays from 10am-12pm, the workshops are open to children in first through third grade. Participants must participate in all four weeks. During art workshops for kids of all ages held on April 13, 14, and 15 from 10am-12pm, children will learn how to paint nature with MIA Lipstick, a local artist featured in the museum’s Mother Earth, Father Sky exhibit. Other workshops that will be held this spring will relate to some of the museum’s most popular summer programs, including Don't Try This At Home and Mad Scientist classes, which are offered in July and August. Despite its appeal to "mad scientists and evil super geniuses," the program is safe and fun, says education director Lynn Olins. At the museum’s newest permanent exhibit, Get Physical!, children can learn about the laws of physics and the science behind many everyday physical activities, such as how pulleys work and the ideal aerodynamic structure for a paper airplane. Another new exhibit, Adventure Science, opens in April. It will challenge kids to explore the museum’s aerial rope course and tree park, where they can learn about the forces of balance and friction by navigating rope swings and balancing courses. This exhibit is suitable for small children with supervising adults. Registration is required for the museum’s workshops and programs. The museum is open Tuesday-Sunday from 10am-5pm.
