Discovery PitStop Nursery and Preschool Opens in Clinton Hill

Discovery PitStop, a nursery and preschool for children ages 4 months to 4 years, recently opened in Clinton Hill.

Discovery PitStop is an early learning environment that provides daily and extended care. It opened July 10 in Clinton Hill. The school is inquiry-based, so it encourages discovery through the learning process, which is a theme throughout the preschool curriculum.

Discovery PitStop focuses mainly on early literacy and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) activities. The school also has a Spanish component in which every classroom has a teacher who is bilingual in Spanish and English so it is naturally woven into the students' activities. Discovery PitStop has Spanish story time and singing during their music circle.

Christopher and Linique McCoy are the owners, with Linique serving as the director. She is a Brooklyn native and New York state-certified teacher with more than 10 years of experience at local public schools.

Since Brooklyn is her home, Linique wanted to make the nursery school a home away from home for families. She accomplished this by bringing in a design team to make sure the space felt like home. The company motto is “you’re on your way to who you’ll bee,” which Discovery Pitstop does by helping students in their early development.
 

“We really want to help our students become who they are going to be in life, as well as help our staff become who they are going to be," Linique says. "Even as adults we are learning and our priority is helping provide the parents with information and resources while encouraging them to take the next step in their child’s education."

The preschool is located on the first level while the nursery and toddler classroom are located on the ground floor. Some of the activities that the infants participate in are story time, singing, walks, and naps. Discovery PitStop tries to design the daily schedule so it is individualized for every child’s needs.

Parents will complete an information sheet so the teachers can know what they are doing at home in regard to feedings, naptimes, and introducing solid foods. This will allow the teachers to pick up where the child’s parents left off. Discovery PitStop has flexible scheduling options starting at 8am with pick up at 3pm or 6pm extended day.
