As a supplement to learning Mandarin, Ecole Internationale fourth graders took a two-week trip to China in March to discover Chinese culture, history, and way of living.

In January 2015, Ecole Internationale de New York, a French-English bicultural school that aims to educate children into becoming global, bilingual students from an early age, is moving its preschool program to Fifth Avenue. The school also began its seventh grade program in September, and plans to add an eighth grade in September 2015.

Ecole Internationale de New York’s preschool includes nursery, pre-K, and kindergarten for children ages 3-5. The programs are taught three days in French and two days in English, following an innovative curriculum that includes literacy, math, and sciences.

“Each preschool classroom has two teachers—one French, one American—present all the time,” says Yves Rivaud, head of school and founder. “Parents are able to see the progress of their child within a year or two, and, before the end of primary school, each child is completely bilingual.”

Preschool applications for the 2015 fall semester are available for submission online until Dec. 12.

The seventh grade program and the 2015 eighth grade expansion are continuations of the school’s expansion to include middle school grades, which began in 2013. The middle school follows the bilingual curriculum with all subjects taught in French and English. Mandarin is taught to third grade and up, and Spanish is taught in middle school. Application for the middle school’s 2015 fall semester must be submitted by Jan. 30, 2015.

French knowledge is prerequisite for all students interested in enrolling after third grade.
