Eloise at the Museum to Debut at the New-York Historical Society

Eloise is moving from her home at the Plaza to her new temporary residence at the New-York Historical Society this month, according to a press release.

The beloved picture book character is the focus of a new exhibition at the New-York Historical Society called Eloise at the Museum—a collaboration created by cabaret star and author Kay Thompson and illustrator Hilary Knight.

The exhibition will feature original manuscript pages, sketchbooks, portraits, photographs, and vintage dolls. Scenes from the Eloise books including the Plaza hotel lobby, her bedroom, and her “bawthroom” will also be recreated.

Family programs throughout the exhibition’s run include Eloise Storytimes on Tuesday-Friday at 2pm; Eloise’s Rawther Fancy Party with storytelling, art-making, and mischief making on July 8-9 and Sept. 30-Oct. 1; screenings of Eloise at the Plaza on several Sundays; and Eloise-themed birthday parties for kids ages 5 and older.

“We are thrilled to celebrate Eloise with this special exhibition, as she is a true New York character through and through,” Dr. Louise Mirrer, president and CEO of the New-York Historical Society, said in a statement. “Whether she is exploring the nooks and crannies of the iconic Plaza Hotel or adventuring across the globe, Eloise’s indomitable spirit is an inspiration to New Yorkers young and old, and the story of her creation and her lasting impact on pop culture are equally fascinating.”

The exhibit debuted earlier this year at The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, MA. It opens on June 30 and runs through Oct. 9. For more information, visit the New-York Historical Society’s website
