New Places to Eat In Astoria With Kids

Delicious spots for the whole family!

Astoria, Queens is one of the most culturally diverse neighborhoods in New York City and it's just a short subway ride from midtown Manhattan making it one of the hottest neighborhoods in New York City, as well. Recently a number of kid-friendly, not to mention delicious, restaurants have popped up giving Astoria a real culinary edge.

Dining out with kids can sometimes be a real drag, but as New Yorkers there's not much more we enjoy than going out to eat, especially to try a new place. Astoria, Queens is already so kid-friendly with its numerous playgrounds, classes, and playspaces, but now it can add kid-friendly food to the top of the list, too.

From steakhouses to cookies-only, here are our picks for great family-friendly restaurants in Astoria.

Prince Tea House in Astoria is the third location for this business. The other two locations are in Flushing and Brooklyn. It opened last fall and offers traditional tea in a modern setting. There are over 100 teas on the menu as well as desserts, sandwiches, appetizers, salads, and wine. Kids will love customizing their own waffles and of course noshing on the beautiful looking desserts. Be warned that there are no high chairs so it might be best not to bring toddlers. Prince Tea House is located at 31-47 Steinway Street.

Chip NYC is definitely more suitable as an after-dinner spot, as it serves just one item....cookies! The small shop bakes fresh cookies daily and offers a rotating menu of flavors which include, Funfetti, Blueberry Cheesecake, and Chocolate Peanut Butter among others. This place is often busy so you can expect a short wait, but just know, it's totally worth it. Chip NYC is located at 30-06 34th Street.

I've been to Uncle Jack's Meat House with both of my boys and have to say you really get the best of both worlds; delicious steak in a laid back atmosphere. Often steakhouses can be formal and a bit stuffy and not a great place for kids. But Meat House, which is owned by the same people that own Uncle Jack's Steakhouse, has done a great job of providing Astoria families with a great new place to eat. I love that it opens early, 11:30am Mon-Fri and 11am Sat-Sun, which makes it a great spot to grab lunch or brunch. In addition to its famous steak, there are burgers, sandwiches, and "munchies" on the menu. Uncle Jack's Meat House is located at 36-18 Ditmars Boulevard.

Nothing says "family-friendly" more than BBQ! Salt & Bone opened last year and its menu includes items such as mac 'n' cheese, cauliflower mashed potatoes, corn bread, and Mississippi Mud Pie. They have family-style meal options and also offer catering. The casual vibe is great for families as you can plop your kids down in a booth while you order. The food comes out fast and fresh and we had a whole "the messier the better vibe" which served us well when we went. Salt & Bone is located at 32-07 30th Avenue.

Astoria Provisions is a small spot, in the former location of Astor Bake Shop, that offers pastries and pie as well as fried chicken and mac and cheese. It also has four different varieties of avocado toast on the menu. My kids love the Nutella French Toast and I highly recommend the Classic Benny. This place is also great for taking some Instagram-worthy shots as it is painted a lovely cobalt blue. Astoria Provisions is located at 12-23 Astoria Blvd.
