Things to Do in Flushing With Kids

From museums to parks and so much more!

Flushing, Queens is truly representative of what New York City stands for. It is a melting pot of cultures, with beautiful parks and public spaces, not to mention a few musuems and, of course, the home of the New York Mets. It is also full of great activities and things to do for the whole family. Flushing Meadows Corona Park alone makes this neighborhood a top family destination in NYC.

From museums to Met's games, Flushing has so much for kids to do. Here are our favorite things to do in Flushing, Queens with kids:

Museums in Flushing

The Queens Museum is known for its Panorama of the City of New York, a scaled-down replica of NYC. It’s really a sight to see! The museum also offers Sunday Family Workshops where you can experience, art, dance, music, and storytelling. The New York Hall of Science is a must-see for New York kids and has plenty of hands-on exhibits for kids to learn and play. It also offers workshops and performances for kids. Both museums are located within Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

Citi Field

You can’t really talk about Flushing without mentioning the New York Mets. Citi Field is one of the most kid-friendly stadiums in the U.S. and offers so much in the way of fun, food, and sports. While you can only catch a game April-Oct., Citi Field promises to be a good time. Kids can join the Mr. Met Kid's Club, which gets them loads of goodies and priority entry to the Mr. Met Dash on Family Sundays. Family Sundays are really great and include pre-game activities such as face painting, pictures with Mr. Met, and Fan Fest, where kids can practice their baseball skills. Best of all Citi Field is easily accessible via 7 train. Citi Field is located at 12301 Roosevelt Ave. For more information visit mlb.com/mets

The Theater in Flushing

Year-round Flushing Town Hall offers great performances for kids and families. From puppetry to dance, music, or theater, you are sure to find a show to entertain your little ones. It also artistic offers workshops and celebrations for kids including its Halloween and Lunar New Year celebrations which are wildly popular. Queens Theatre also offers a great Family Series where kids can take in live performances created just for them.

Queens Botanical Garden

This beautiful botanical garden can often be overlooked, especially when it has NYBG and Brooklyn Botanical Garden to compete with. But, with free admission Nov-March, a slew of tropical plants, and a rotating calendar of activities for kids, the Queens Botanical Garden is one of New York City’s hidden treasures. It also runs an entire program dedicated to teaching kids how to garden. Kids ages 2-14 can take part in many of the garden’s fun and educational activities through out the year. The garden also offers cooking and crafts classes for the whole family. Queens Botanical Garden is located at 43-50 Main Street. For more info visit queensbotanical.org.

Flushing Meadows Corona Park

Flushing Meadows Corona Park really deserves an entire post all to itself. With eight playgrounds, a carousel, Fantasy Forest Amusement Park, and the New York Hall of Science (just to name a few), families can easily spend an entire week exploring everything this park has to offer. During the summer months families can cool off in the pool. The Queens Zoo is also located within the park and is open year-round. Little ones will get a kick out of the petting zoo adjacent to the main zoo’s entrance. In the Spring be sure to check out the  Sakura Matsuri Cherry Blossom Festival. You can also take in the sights at the 1964 World’s Fair Unisphere, an iconic NYC attraction.
