IDNYC Card Now Available to Children Ages 10 and Older

IDNYC Card Now Available to Children Ages 10 and Older

Kids as young as 10 can now apply for an IDNYC card to save on museums, bike rentals, movies, and more.

Children as young as 10 years old can now get an IDNYC card, a free identification card available to New York City residents. Through the program, which was introduced in 2015, New York City residents who apply receive a government-issued photo identification card that serves as an acceptable form of photo identification, plus provides access to services and programs offered by the city, as well as local businesses.

With the card, residents get free admission to museums and zoos, discounts on movies, and other benefits. The IDNYC card is also the only card that is accepted across all three NYC public library systems.

The card was previously available only to those ages 14 and up. Roughly 1.2 million people already have an IDNYC card, and city officials say that an additional 300,000 children will benefit from the move.

“IDNYC’s accessibility has been key to its success from the very start,” said MOIA Commissioner Bitta Mostofi. “More New Yorkers, regardless of immigration status, will be able to demonstrate eligibility for their IDNYC card, opening doors throughout the five boroughs.”

If you’re a NYC resident 10 years or older, visit theIDNYC website to find out how to apply for your own card.
