Free-Flight Bird Show Set for Seven Weekends at Bronx Zoo

Free-Flight Bird Show Set for Seven Weekends at Bronx Zoo

“Birds in Flight,” presented by JetBlue, will return to the Bronx Zoo’s historic Astor Court for seven weekends beginning Saturday and Sunday, May 7 and 8, according to a press release from the Wildlife Conservation Society.

Every spring, New York City plays host to countless migratory birds who use the city's parks to rest and refuel on the way north. With that in mind, the Zoo has planned plenty of activities in May to make the most of this season, including the Birdathon, bird watching 101, nest building, and more.

During “Birds in Flight,” visitors will be amazed by the gorgeous colors and acrobatic moves of macaws, condors, falcons, hawks, vultures, and owls at two different shows each day (11:30am and 2pm). The birds will demonstrate their natural flight behaviors while presenters from Animal Behavior & Conservation Connections (ABCC) will teach onlookers about the conservation needs of the species. Each show will feature different species and different behaviors.

Some guests may even have the chance for an even more intimate interaction with the birds as volunteers to serve as perching for some of the birds. And after each show, ABCC will offer visitors the opportunity to meet some of the birds and learn more about their training, behaviors and personalities.

“Birds in Flight” is free with a general admission ticket to the Bronx Zoo. In addition to the scheduled weekend shows, there will be shows on Wednesday, May 11 as part of the Bronx Week festivities and there will be shows on Monday, May 30 for the Memorial Day holiday.
