Register Now for Free Full-Day Summer Academy Programs via the NYC Department of Education

Registration is now open for Summer in the City's Summer Academy programs. These programs offer New York City kids in grades 2-12 free, full-day summer programing with hands-on STEM activities, reading and math curriculum, and visits to museums, parks, and other cultural sites, states the NYC Dept. of Education's website.

Students in Summer in the City programs will also receive free breakfast and lunch as well as free transportation. You must register for transportation services separately.

Summer Academy is for students who have not been recommended to attend Summer School, which is a different program.

Each of the Summer Academy programs are listed separately and must be registered for individually. Programs include:

STEM Summer in the City - This five-week program helps students develop skills like coding and game design, along with robotics and the engineering design process. Students will also participate in art projects, field trips, and physical education. Programs are for students currently enrolled in grades 2-5.  

STEM Matters NYC Camp - STEM Matters NYC offers students programs that range from aviation to animal science, and oceanography to ecology. Students can participate in week-long camps. Programs are for students currently enrolled in grades K-5. 

DREAM - DREAM is a program that helps prepare eligible middle school students for the Specialized High School Admissions Test. 

CareerClue - CareerClue allows students to get valuable work experience, as well as a full SYEP summer wage ($1,500-$1,900 for the summer). Students can also earn academic credit.  The program includes field trips to learn about different career pathways.
