Kids Receive Free Dental Care at Annual Give Kids a Smile Day

Give Kids a Smile Day is an annual event that provides dental care to underserved children across the country.

Just in time for National Children’s Dental Health Month, kids can receive free dental care on Friday, Feb. 3 as part of the Give Kids a Smile program, organized by the American Dental Association.

The annual event has been around since 2003 with the purpose of providing underserved kids around the country with free dental care. Children will receive examinations, cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, restorations, X-rays, and more. Parents will be given information on where to access affordable treatment at area clinics; disease prevention and oral hygiene education will also be shared.

The New York City Dental Society will be setting up sites for dental screenings at the following public schools from 8:30am-2:30pm on Friday, Feb. 3: PS 185/206 on the Upper West Side, PS 83/182 BBMS on the Upper East Side, and PS 20 on the Lower East Side. More than 800 elementary school children were treated at last year’s Give Kids a Smile Day in New York City.

Give Kids a Smile Day was first held in St. Louis, Missouri in 2002 and provided dental care to 400 kids. Today, 5.5 million kids have received dental care thanks to this program, according to the ADA.
