Guggenheim Museum Debuts Children’s Artwork Exhibit

The exhibit features artwork made by children from all five boroughs.

A Year With Children 2019, an annual presentation of works of art created by New York City children in grades second-sixth, will be on display from April 26-June 2 at the Guggenheim Museum. The exhibit features more than 100 works from 12 participating schools throughout all five boroughs. The artwork covers a number of mediums including paintings, sculptures, collages, prints, and poems. P.S. 86 from the Bronx, P.S. 8 and 9 from Brooklyn, P.S. 28, 38, and 145 and Mosaic Preparatory Academy from Manhattan, P.S. 219, 130, 144, and 317 from Queens, and P.S. 48 from Staten Island contributed to the exhibition.

A Year With Children is made possible through a partnership with Learning Through Art, The Guggenheim’s arts-education program. Over the last 48 years, LTA has worked to counteract decreased funding for the arts through providing artistic enrichment for students across New York City.  It aims to increase creative thinking, collaboration amongst students, and visual literacy. Students visit Guggenheim exhibitions throughout the year to gain inspiration and engage in discussions surrounding the works.

“The annual Year with Children exhibition is a culmination of the thoughtful and creative work that Learning Through Art facilitates in public school classrooms across New York City,” says Kim Kanatani, deputy director and Gail Engelberg director of education at the Guggenheim. “For nearly fifty years, LTA has provided high-quality visual arts education that supports the curriculum while fostering individual expression and skill-based learning.”

The Guggenheim will also host family-friendly activities throughout the exhibition including Saturday Sketching from 10am-4pm, Open Studios from 1-4pm on Sundays, and daily Family Activity Guides from 10am-4pm.

The Guggenheim Museum is located at 1071 Fifth Ave., Upper East Side. For more information visit guggenheim.org or call 212-423-3500. The museum is open from 10am-5:30pm, daily, with extended hours until 8pm on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Admission is $25; $18 students and seniors; free for members and children younger than 12.
