Ideas to get kids to eat breakfast without all the sugar

Pop tarts and fruit loops will not give your children the energy or focus they need at school, so let’s get them eating healthier while keeping a smile on their face.

Instead of purchasing flavored yogurt, try unsweetened and add your own honey and cinnamon to it. With the amount of sweeteners added to flavored yogurt, you will automatically be cutting the sugars by adding your own flavoring. Then add fresh or frozen fruit to it. If your kids would like cereal added to this dish, or alone, try a mixture of granola (make sure to look at the labels—some contain a lot of sugar) and brown rice crisps.

Smoothies are also a great way to get nutrients into kids’ bodies! They won’t even taste the kale, spinach, or avocado when you add it to a fruit smoothie. Adding some nut butter is sure to be a hit, too.

Ever try “egg in the middle?” It’s a fun way to have kids eat eggs because they can be involved, and this brunch food is delicious!

Smiling Through Chaos Egg In The Middle Recipe

  1. Take a few slices of bread (Whole Wheat, Sprouted, Gluten-Free Hemp or Brown Rice Flour) and butter them with grass-fed butter or a coconut oil spread.

  2. Lay the bread flat.

  3. Find your smallest glass and create a circle in the slices of bread by turning the glass over and pressing down into the middle of the bread.

  4. After spraying a pan, place the bread circles and bread with holes in the middle onto the pan. Heat on medium-low.

  5. When the bread is warm, add one egg to each hole in the bread. Cook about half way and flip the bread. Flip the bread circles as well.

  6. You’re welcome to flip back one more time for extra crispiness, or remove from the pan once the egg is cooked to your liking. You’ll enjoy this too, parents!

  7. Serve one piece of bread with the egg and one circle, along with fruit on the side, and you have a full, balanced, and healthy meal for your children.
