International Academy of New York Temporarily Relocates to Upper West Side

This school year the International Academy of New York will be operating in a new Upper West Side location, 150 W 83rd St. The move comes while the school is renovating their original Upper East Side location, 4 E 90th St, planned to be complete for the next academic school year.

The renovations will update and refresh the existing building and facilities such as the classrooms, the kitchen, the music and art facilities, among others.

The International Academy of New York is a bilingual, multi-cultural, and diverse independent school focusing on literacy, math, and creativity that celebrates the world, serving children from nursery to 8th grade. Fostering individuality, the school celebrates all religions, nationalities, socioeconomic backgrounds, races, abilities, and more.

Students spend about 40 percent of their week operating in the second language of the family’s choice – Spanish, Mandarin, or Chinese. This time is made up in language, art, and music classes, all taught in an immersive fashion by native speakers of that language.

The school also immerses its students in the city, encouraging its students to be outdoors and active in their community. To them, this means incorporating local museums and cultural centers such as The Met, The Cooper Hewitt Museum, or The Jewish Center into each class. The temporary move will allow for the students to experience establishments such as the Museum of Natural History.

“We know that our children are going to graduate from our school as compassionate leaders, bilingual, who can help make the world a better place,” says Emily Benson, the Director of Admissions at the International Academy of New York.
