Celebrate Kids Music Day to Promote Music Education This October

Kids Music Day will take place across the nation on Friday, Oct. 6.

Music schools, stores, and organizations across the country will celebrate the second annual Kids Music Day on Friday, Oct. 6 to promote music in children’s education, according to a press release.

Keep Music Alive—a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the importance of music programs in schools—created Kids Music Day, along with Teach Music America Week, which takes place in March, during which more than 600 music schools across the country offer free music lessons to new students.

“We recognize that many public schools across the country are cutting or reducing their music and arts programs,” Vincent James, co-founder of Keep Music Alive, said in a statement. “Research has shown how critical music and arts education are to developing our children’s minds and character. Our mission is to highlight musical programs, wherever possible, to help raise awareness of how valuable music really is to our children and our collective future.”

You can take part in student music performances, community and family jams, instrument petting zoos, music school open houses, instrument donation drives, and more on Kids Music Day. To find a list of events happening in the New York area, visit the Kids Music Day website.
