LinguaKids Larchmont Partners With Parents to Create Customized Foreign Language Courses for Kids

LinguaKids Larchmont now offers customized foreign language courses. Created in conjunction with parents who immigrated to New York from other countries, these courses are developed to help kids gain fluency in their family's native language and to have a connection to their home country.

Headed by husband and wife team Jean-Louis Troch, owner, and Michele Troch, director, LinguaKids Larchmont offers kids of all ages courses in French, Spanish, and Chinese taught by instructors who are native speakers. The studio also provides private tutoring and translation services and summer camps. It also offers after-school programs at over 20 schools and nurseries in Westchester and Fairfield, Connecticut. 

At the Larchmont studio, courses are taught once a week and are offered in two 17-week sessions. The fall session began September 12 and runs until February 4. The Spring Session runs from February 11-June 24. No more than eight students are placed in each class, the small size allowing for increased one-on-one attention.

With an increase on language immersion at a young age, the studio offers courses for kids as young as six months. Other courses include Explorers for kids ages two and older and Volagers and Adventurers for kids ages four and older.

"You need to start [learning a second language] at a young age," says Troch. "The sooner you start, the better."

Parents interested in developing a course in a language outside of the regular curriculum can reach out directly to the studio. Once at least six students are enrolled in the course, LinguaKids then develops materials and hires a qualified instructor to teach the class. Past custom language courses have included Italian in summer 2017 and Korean in summer 2018. This fall, the studio is offering its Korean course for 10 weeks, which started in September. Currently offered once a week, the course may add a second hour if it gains additional students.
