Disney’s New Polynesian Princess Adventure, 'Moana', Hits Theaters Next November

Excitement mounts as new details emerge about 'Moana', Disney's upcoming Polynesian princess adventure, slated for release next November 2016.

Disney’s newest CG-animated mythic adventure-takes place around 2000 years ago, when Moana, a feisty teenage island girl from tropical Oceania sets out to find the legendary and mysterious island of her forefathers.  She embarks on an epic journey sailing the South Pacific Ocean to complete her “ancestor’s quest.”

Moana Waialiki is Disney’s newest and first-ever Polynesian princess. She is voiced by the 14-year-old Hawaiian native, Auli’I Cravalho, and her fallen demi-god sidekick, Maui, is played by Dwayne Johnson. Also joining her on her adventure is her pet pig, Pau, and a rooster named Hei-Hei. During their action-packed mission, they encounter fiery creatures and other villains that they must overcome. Moana must prove her courage while discovering her adventurous spirit as she faces impossible odds.

As for the music, it's as original as the story, scored by Mark Mancina, Opetaia Foa’i, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. It’s a fusion of their three styling’s: traditional Pacific, “world music,” and narrative musical.  Moana is directed by John Musker and Ron Clements of Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and The Princess and the Frog.  This is their first fully CG-animated film, and Walt Disney Classics 56th animated feature film.

Moana hits theaters next November, 2016. Stay up-to-date with all Moana developments on Twitter @DisneyAnimation or follow #Moana
