NBC Sports’ Liam McHugh to Instruct at Hofstra University’s Summer Sports Journalism and Broadcasting Program

Sports journalists from FOX Sports, MSG Network, ABC Sports, and ESPN will be joining the Hofstra Sports Journalism and Broadcasting Program this summer.

On July 2, NBC Sports’ Football Night in America host Liam McHugh will join the summer Sports Journalism and Broadcasting Program at Hofstra University where he’ll serve as an instructor along with an already impressive staff of industry professionals. The program, part of Hofstra University’s Continuing Education, launches students ages 12-18 into the world of sports journalism. The program runs for six weeks starting on July 2.

With 17 course offerings to choose from, young "broadcasters" can opt to take individual classes on the basics in Introduction to Sportscasting, or go in-depth with Sports Radio Hosting, Television Sports Reporting, Sports Round Table Hosting, Sports Play-by-Play for TV & Radio, or Vocal Coaching.

Those itching for a more comprehensive overview of the industry can complete a certificate program, which requires six mandatory courses and two electives. Students also have the chance to test out their skills in any of Hofstra’s two fully equipped studios for television and audio recording.

An exciting and full roster of guest speakers awaits participants of the Sports Journalism and Broadcasting Program this summer, including co-host of ESPN’s GameNight Freddie Coleman, Kenny Albert of FOX Sports and MSG Network, and ABC Sports, ESPN and New York Knicks play-by-play broadcaster, Mike Breen.

“It’s a joy for us as instructors to watch students come through this program and to watch them develop these skills over one summer.” says Assistant Program Coordinator and Instructor Kevin Dexter. “That’s the most fun part of the job.”

Hofstra University’s Sports Journalism and Broadcasting Program is located at 255 Hofstra University, Hempstead. For more information, email [email protected] or call 516-563-5909.
