Enjoy NYC Summer Streets Before They Come to An End

Enjoy NYC Summer Streets Before They Come to An End

Families are invited to enjoy the last few weekends of summer at the annual Summer Streets event. For the next two Saturdays (Aug 13th and 20th), nearly seven miles of NYC streets will be closed to traffic so that families can run and play, according to the NYC website.

Summer Streets is designed to give New Yorkers ample space for recreation and to promote a healthy, sustainable lifestyle. Last year, nearly 300,000 residents took advantage of the open streets by walking, running and biking to their destinations.

There will be seven rest stops featuring different activities for residents of all ages to enjoy. For example, the Foley Square rest stop will feature an obstacle course and water slide, while the Astor Place location will have a play area for dogs, and the Uptown rest stop will host live performances and a zip line.

Each Saturday will also offer a host of educational programs, such as a Woman’s History Walking Tour at Bowling Green, bike riding clinics at Park Row, a Lower Manhattan Television and Film Tour, garden games at Hanover Square, and a pop-up reading room and art studio.

In addition, several museums in the area—including Skyscraper, Fraunces Tavern, South Street Seaport, and the National Museum of the American Indian—are offering discounted or free admission to visitors. Local businesses are also giving deals and hosting special events throughout the day.

The event will take place on Saturday, August 13 and August 20 from 7am to 1pm. For more info and a full list of activities, visit nyc.gov.
