OLMC Feast Returns in July to Carry the Giglio Tradition in Brooklyn

The annual Our Lady of Mount Carmel Feast of the Giglio returns to Brooklyn, July 6-17, to delight families and kids of all ages

Tradition continues as the annual Our Lady of Mount Carmel Feast of the Giglio returns to Brooklyn to delight families and kids of all ages. The two-week Italian festival will run July 6-17.

The festival is marked by fun celebrations near the church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on North Eighth and Havemeyer Streets. The highlight of the feast is the Dance of the Giglio, when more than 100 people lift a 4-ton, 70-foot tall statue called the Giglio—surely a sight to see!

Throughout the feast, visitors can enjoy food vendors selling Italian delicacies such as sausage and peppers, zeppole and many other delicious dishes. There are also rides and games, and a beer garden along with an air-conditioned café and bazaar where visitors can play roulette and other game favorites.

The feast honors St. Paulinus of Nola, Italy. While Williamsburg has seen many changes over the years, the Feast of the Giglio has been a mainstay in the area since 1903.
