See Dazzling Floral Displays When the NYBG Orchid Show Returns in 2022

After a hiatus in 2021, the New York Botanical Garden Orchid Show will return in early 2022.

New York City will bloom with color and fun at The New York Botanical Garden in early 2022. The garden’s popular orchid exhibition will return with NYBG's The Orchid Show: Jeff Leatham's Kaleidoscope, Feb. 26-May 1, 2022.

There was no formal Orchid Show at the Bronx institution in 2021, and it was cut short in March 2020 when the garden closed due to the pandemic. But the 2022 event is back in full force for its 19th year. The exhibit will amaze flower fans of all ages with breathtaking orchid towers of orange, yellow, and green, fields of white, and overhead plumes of purple.

For now, though, you can visit the New York Botanical Garden to see the Holiday Train Show and NYBG GLOW.

NYBG Orchid Show 2022: A Kaleidoscope of Color

Leatham, who designed the 2020 Orchid Show, will update his dazzling creations for 2022. He'll transform each gallery of the exhibition in NYBG's Enid A. Haupt Conservatory into a different color experience inspired by the turn of a kaleidoscope. An expert floral designer, Leatham worked on the project with horticulturists from NYBG to assemble orchids from its collections. Other expert orchid growers were part of the team, too. Orchids of almost every kind, including rare and iconic specimens, will be on display in various configurations for visitors to enjoy.

“I am thrilled to bring Kaleidoscope back to the New York Botanical Garden in 2022. Much like when you look into a kaleidoscope, the view is never the same,” said Leatham, who is the artistic director of the Four Seasons Hotel George V in Paris. “My reinvention of Kaleidoscope will be totally different installations than two years ago. Every turn will display a new vision while maintaining the thematic element of every gallery focusing on a different color experience. With this design, visitors will appreciate the beauty of orchids and see the NYBG's Conservatory in exciting new ways.”

FUN FACT: Leatham is a floral designer to the stars. His clients include Dolly Parton, Tina Turner, Oprah, and many others.

On select dates during the show’s run, the botanical garden will host Orchid Evenings, when adults ages 21 and older can experience the exhibition at night with music, cash bars, and food available for purchase. More information to be announced soon!

Many people who visit the famous show want to take some of the orchids home, so there’s good news:  A variety of species are available for purchase at the NYBG Shop. Visitors can browse thousands of top-quality orchids, from exotic, hard-to-find specimens for connoisseurs to elegant yet easy-to-grow kinds for newbies to the flower world.
