PepsiCo Reopens Sculpture Garden in Purchase to the Public

The Donald M. Kendall Sculpture Gardens in Purchase will reopen to the public on Saturday, April 1 at 10 a.m., according to lohud.

The renowned sculpture garden, located at PepsiCo’s world headquarters, contains 46 sculptures and an array of gardens, pathways, and groves that span across 168 acres. It was installed in Purchase in 1970 as a gift to the community from PepsiCo, named after the company’s former chairman and CEO, Donald M. Kendall.

But the Donald M. Kendall Sculpture Gardens have been closed to the public since late 2012 due to major renovations of the PepsiCo headquarters. Beforehand the popular park saw more than 100,000 visitors every year and was open to all year-round, seven days a week.

Though the reopening of the sculpture garden is certainly welcomed—it was originally slated to reopen mid-2015 and the headquarter renovations have been done since mid-June of 2016—the new public hours are limited. Starting on Saturday, April 1 the Donald M. Kendall Sculpture Gardens will be open to the general public only on weekends, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 31, reports lohud. Schools and camp groups may visit throughout the week between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.—provided they make reservations at least 10 business days in advance, according to PepsiCo’s website

Despite the reduced hours the sculpture garden appears to be an alluring weekend option for those in and around Westchester County. Visitors wishing to explore the newly reopened Donald M. Kendall Sculpture Gardens can map out their course using this map and should take a look at its rules. Some to note are that no sunbathing or sports are permitted, leashed pets are not allowed, you must stay on the paths, leave scooters and other wheeled equipment at home, and, of course, stay off the art.
