20 Pumpkin Patches in NYC & Nearby That Kids of All Ages Will Love

You don’t have to leave the city to find the perfect pumpkin; there are plenty of places to go pumpkin picking in NYC and nearby with your family.


For families living in New York City, the only thing scarier than Halloween is having to leave NYC for pumpkin picking. Fortunately, there are several pumpkin patches in NYC where families can go pumpkin picking without traveling too far. But if a day trip to a farm or orchard outside the city is on your family’s fall fun to-do list, we’ve also included a few places to pick pumpkins in New Jersey, Westchester, Rockland, and Long Island that are within approximately a 1-hour, 30-minute drive! And you're sure to find the perfect one to carve into a jack-o'-lantern. As with anything these days, it’s a good idea to call before heading out to confirm pick-your-own availability and hours.

If you’re looking for the perfect fall photo op, you’ll find it at QBG this fall. Ticket fee includes admission to both the pumpkin patch and the garden, so you will have plenty of chances to snap the perfect autumn shot. Kids can also meet and take pictures with costumed nature creatures roaming the farm. For adults 21 and older, available are harvest and pumpkin-themed beers and ciders for purchase. Can’t decide on the perfect pumpkin? Get them all! Extra pumpkins are just $6 each.

October is pumpkin month at Queens County Farm. Enjoy the crisp fall air as you wander through the patch to scoop up the perfect pumpkin. Walk the farm grounds and soak in some New York history. This farm is one of the longest continually farmed sites in New York state, dating back to 1697. Enjoy on-site hayrides and a 3-acre interactive corn maze.

Located in Aviator Sports Center on Floyd Bennett Field, this pumpkin patch offers hayrides, 10 different tractors for kids to explore, a farm playground, a milking cow, a bulldozer to operate, a roller slide, and more, plus a free pumpkin with admission. Partake in the Halloween Candy Hunt the last two weekends in October, then come back in November for a pumpkin-smashing good time.

The 2022 season celebrates the 106th year of harvest at Wilkens. When you’re done choosing your pumpkin, get lost in the corn maze that gets a new and updated design each year.

You can select your perfect pumpkin for decorating, carving, or just to have for décor. Visit the farm stand to buy a pre-picked pumpkin, gourds, Indian corn, and corn stalks. An on-site bakery offers pies, apple cider, apple cider doughnuts, muffins, scones, and other treats for sale. Hayrides on weekends (11am-5pm) offer the full farm experience!

Alstede Farms offers orange and white pumpkins, munchkins, gourds, and assorted winter squash—all available in u-pick! Pony and tractor-pulled wagon rides are offered daily (for an extra fee). 2. Demarest Farms

Hours: Sept. 18-Oct. 31, Thursday-Sunday, 8am-5pm. Visits limited to your reservation time frame. Arrive promptly at your scheduled time. If you arrive late, you’ll still be asked to leave at the end of your reservation time.
Open since 1886, this farm is a staple in Bergen County. Hayrides still aren’t being given right now, so wear shoes for walking on uneven surfaces. No outside items allowed including strollers, backpacks, and purses. 3. Secor Farms

Walk to the decorated pumpkin patch to find the best pumpkin to take home. Scattered in the pumpkin patch, you’ll also find fun decorations for photo ops. In addition to pumpkins, it carries a large selection of gourds, jack-be-little pumpkins, corn stalks, and Halloween decorations. And don’t forget the corn maze! 4. Stony Hill Farms

Hicks boasts a myriad of fall harvest selections, including cinderella pumpkins, cheese pumpkins, mystic pumpkins, peanut pumpkins, acorn and butternut squash, fairy tale squash, gooseneck squash, turban squash, and many more. Kids can take pictures with Otto the Ghost (he’s friendly!) and walk-thru his animated story. Fall foodies will love the selection of pumpkins for their baked food spreads.

Fall Festival weekends at White Post Farms feature pumpkin picking, an animal farm, pony rides and train rides (both require an extra fee), sing-along hayrides, pumpkin painting, a variety of family shows, tasty treats, and more. In addition to getting up close to the farm’s animals, kids can hand- or bottle-feed some of the animals (for an extra fee).
