Samuel Field Y and Central Queens Y Merge to Become Commonpoint Queens

Samuel Field Y and Central Queens Y officially joined forces in December 2018 to become Commonpoint Queens and to share resources and to invest stronger outreach efforts across the entire Queens community. The merge has allowed the two organizations to collaborate on planning across the three Y locations in Little Neck, Bayside, and Forest Hills.

“It just allowed us to have a greater reach and to be able to offer more programs in the borough of Queens,” says Director of Communications for Commonpoint Queens, Jared Mintz.

Commonpoint Queens serves an estimated 50,000 people at more than 50 locations, including 22 schools and three main centers. It offers a variety of services including day camps, after-school programs, youth gymnastics, youth sports, swimming lessons, private pool clubs, a fitness center, employment programs, senior centers, mental health clinics and more.

Other exciting things to expect from Commonpoint Queens include the Kaboom playground, more opportunities for swim instruction, and a variety of weekly themes for the Nursery Camp. Nursery Camp is designed to guide young explorers ages 2-5 on their first foray into camping. Activities for this year’s Nursery Camp include America the Beautiful, Silly Science, Under the Sea, Twisted Balloons, Buggys, Recycling, Animal Planet, and Magic. The summer season will kick off on July 1, offering a half day program (9am-12pm) for 7 weeks and a full day program (9am-2pm) for 8 weeks. Before and after care is also offered.

Thankfully, the recent merge of Commonpoint Queens has allowed Nursery Camp to collaborate on planning and execution across its three locations, which has resulted in increased training and support for counselors, and more focus on program development.

“It’s given us the opportunity to really leverage our dollars to provide better opportunities for children” says Tricia Campo, director of Nursery Camp at the Little Neck center.
