In operation for more than 30 years, Long Island’s Future Stars day camp offers a diverse line-up of sports and specialty programs for kids in kindergarten through 12th grades. For the first time this summer at its Old Westbury location, Future Stars will offer weekly sessions of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math programming including a Lego robotics camp and a video game design lab.

From building Lego machines to engineering Lego robots, campers entering third through ninth grades are immersed in project-based robotics challenges, led by Queens-based technology learning center RoboMindTech.

Campers will also explore the fundamentals of video game design in a lab using scratch software to create platform-based games. “Campers will do robotics or video game design in the morning and then lunch and swim and recreational sports in order to balance the day,” says David Stapleton, who is the campsite director at the Old Westbury location.

“We have flexible weekly session so campers can pick and choose their schedule in the summer,” added Stapleton, who has 16 years of experience in youth coaching and summer camps.

In addition to its STEM camps, Future Stars provides a wide variety of sports programs including baseball, basketball, lacrosse, soccer, swim, tennis, and volleyball. Specialty camp programs include Circus Arts, Dance, Drama, and Mad Science.

At Future Stars, each camp week is Monday to Friday, 9am-4pm, and runs from June 29 through Aug. 21. Registration is now open for the sports and specialty camps.

Future Stars is hosting open houses at its 600-acre facility on March 7 and 8 from 10am-2pm.
