Grand Opening of The Sugar Hill Children's Museum of Art & Storytelling

New children's museum opens in New York City, devoted to art of storytelling.

New York City’s newest children’s museum, The Sugar Hill Children’s Museum of Art & Storytelling, will host its grand opening Saturday, Oct. 3 in West Harlem. As a cultural home for New Yorkers, the museum is an engaging environment for neighborhood families to share and collectively address the educational needs of the community’s youngest children. Programs tap into the curious, creative spirit, and foster childhood development, by building language and literacy that leads to lifelong learning. The museum offers year-round art exhibitions, storytelling series, art-making workshops, and early childhood educational arts curriculum. The programs are designed specifically for children ages 3-8, but offers fun for the whole family.

In partnerships with El Museo del Barrio and the Studio Museum in Harlem, inaugural exhibitions include People, Places, and Things: Selections from The Studio Museum, which explores artwork, such as landscapes and portraits, depicting everyday life in American communities from the 1930s to the 1980s; Txt: art, language, media, which investigates the visual literacy of everyday life, from poetry to text messaging; and The Pollen Catchers’ Color Mixing Machine, in which Saya Woolfalk’s mural transforms the main gallery into a beautiful dreamscape.
