Wegmans Opens In New York City On Oct. 27

The supermarket with a 'cult following' will open on Flushing Avenue in Brooklyn.

Wegmans, the grocery store with a fan club, is slated to open on Flushing Avenue in Brooklyn on Oct. 27, according to Eater New York. This location will be the first Wegmans in NYC, and what New York family doesn't love trying a new grocery store? What makes this supermarket extra super is its restaurant-quality prepared foods—with everything from lobster rolls and the impossible burger to sushi and locally-brewed beers, in addition to the grocery products your family needs.

“The Brooklyn community has been eagerly awaiting the opening date for this store,” Vice President and District Manager Todd Ferrera told Supermarket News. “October 27 is just around the corner, and we can’t wait to celebrate with everyone.”

The Brooklyn Wegmans is so much more than just a grocery store, and will be catering to the vast cultural population in New York City through its cuisine. It is proud to offer "restaurant foods" to its customers, and aims to become a destination for both shoppers and diners, Stephen De Lucia, executive chef at Wegmans tells Eater.

Among the "restaurant foods" is a sushi bar, offering 28 roll options, poke bowls, and custom rolls. There will also be a brick oven pizza station offering custom pies, a burger bar complete with lobster rolls, crab cake, and fried chicken sandwiches, and a salad bar. Much like other Wegmans locations, there will be a self-serve buffet and a coffee department.

One thing that makes the Brooklyn Wegmans particularly unique is the bar. Modeled after Wegmans Next Door Bar and Grill in Rochester, it will offer beers from local breweries including Threes Brewing, Grimm, and Interboro. There will also be a variety of spirits and kombucha on tap, making this new Brooklyn Wegmans your one-stop-shop for groceries, a meal, and a drink.

Wegmans knows ingredients are no joke, especially to parents. It sources from sustainable distributors and growers, according to De Lucia. Also, Wegmans will offer more than 4,000 organic products to shoppers in Brooklyn.
