Meet Dogs From the Westminster Dog Show at Discovery Times Square

It turns out that man’s best friends have been dogs ever since the Viking era!

The 140th-annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show will take place on February 15-16 at Madison Square Garden, but you can meet with a few of the competition dogs without attending the show.

On February 12 and 14, Discovery Times Square will be hosting a “Meet the Breed” event to visitors who buy tickets to view the new Vikings exhibit. Four dogs from the competition were breeds that were around during the Viking era (8th-11th centuries)—the Finnish Lapphund, Finnish Spitz, Norwegian Elkhound, and Icelandic Sheepdog. The canines will be at the Viking exhibition from 11am-3pm on Friday, Feb. 12 and 2-6pm on Sunday, Feb. 14.

These dogs survived during the Viking era during prosperous times and hardships and were considered to be the Vikings’ best friends, according to a release from Discovery Times Square. It should be duly noted that this event is not affiliated with American Kennel Club’s Meet the Breeds event that takes place at Piers 92 and 94 on the day of the WKC Dog Show.

The Vikings exhibit will be on display at Discovery Times Square through September 5.
