March is Women’s History Month, and there are plenty of places and activities to honor the many memorable women who shaped our country to celebrate women's history month. There are monuments that you can visit all year round as well as special Women’s History Month and International Women's Day events that you and your family can attend this month. Here's where to celebrate women's history month in New York.

Celebrate Women's History Month in Manhattan

WHERE: North 110th Street to Central Park South (59th Street), and from Central Park West (8th Avenue) to 5th Ave

WHAT: Since its creation, women have helped make Central Park a unique and thriving public space. This self-guided walk highlights some of the women who created, inspired, and placed monuments and memorials—in the form of sculptures, playgrounds, landscapes, or recreational facilities—throughout this masterpiece of landscape architecture. This tour is roughly one mile long and should take about 60 minutes to complete.

WHAT: Join Barnard College for the 5th annual Power of Voice Celebration to benefit Girls Leadership. WHAT: Teens will find inspiration in the Met's painting "Esther before Ahasuerus" by Artemisia Gentileschi during an Instagram Live drawing workshop.
Participants receive live drawing instruction from a Met teaching artist and experiment with different drawing approaches.

ONLINE Time-Travel Storytime / Frances Perkins, Champion of Workers' Rights
WHEN: Sunday, March 14, 2-3pm
WHERE: Museum at Eldridge Street, Online
AGES: 6 and older with an adult
WHAT: Travel back in time to the turn of the last century to discover Frances Perkins, the activist whom we can thank for the idea that children belong in school, not working in factories! Historian and actress Alex Delare will lead a virtual storytime with the book Steadfast: Frances Perkins: Champion of Workers' Rights. The book centers on Perkins, whose life changed forever when, as a student, she visited a factory. Horrified that women and children were working in such dangerous places, Perkins vowed to fight on their behalf, organizing unions on the Lower East Side and advocating to change labor laws. At this program, your family will learn about Perkins' remarkable life, how she was impacted by the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, and why President Roosevelt eventually turned to her for help! After the story, Alex will lead a discussion about what it was like to be a young factory worker on the Lower East Side in the early 1900s, and how to use Frances? example to make a difference in your own community.

WHAT: Storytime with The Met, a weekly read-aloud program for children and families, will feature the story Dancing in the Wings by Debbie Allen.

WHERE: DiMenna Children's History Museum at New-York Historical Society, Online

WHAT: Votes for women! Join Historical interpreters to discover the many different methods used by suffragists such as Alice Paul, Mary Church Turrell, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton to encourage male voters to vote “yes!” for women’s right to vote. Then, make your own sign or sash and display your creation during this virtual march!

WHAT: High school students are invited to participate in an interactive event with Museum professionals and gain insights on creative ways that they incorporate diversity, equity and inclusion in their work while discovering new interests, asking questions and building skills. Presented in conjunction with the new exhibition Alice Neel: People Come First.

WHAT: Emily Roebling is in charge of completing the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge after her husband, famous engineer Washington Roebling, fell ill during its construction. Agents, the bridge is almost complete, but Emily needs her missing good luck charm in order to avoid a disastrous first crossing! Follow the clues to help her find it and ensure the Brooklyn Bridge’s opening ceremony is a success.

WHAT: Join the library for a special reading of Brave Girl: Clara and the Shirtwaist Makers' Strike of 1909 for Women's History Month. This children's program will explore the life and legacy of Clara Lemlich, an immigrant garment worker who helped create safer work environments for young women in the early 1900s. The program will end by writing poems together about this revolutionary woman.

Led by a curator from New-York Historical Society’s Center for Women’s History, this interactive virtual presentation uses photographs, campaign posters, and historic footage to uncover the stories of women throughout the centuries who organized and marched to end slavery, win the vote, and protect reproductive rights, among other crucial causes.
