10 Best Doughnut Shops in Brooklyn

10 Best Doughnut Shops in Brooklyn

Doughnuts seem to be the new cupcake in terms of treat popularity, so we found the top 10 doughnut shops in Brooklyn, from classic and old-school shops to vegan treats and unusual flavors. While we’re not suggesting you put yourself in a sugar coma, we are suggesting you stop by at least one of these doughnut shops for a tasty fried treat.

There is no better way to start (or end) your day than with a stop into one of the best Brooklyn-based doughnut shops. With vegan owners selling vegan doughnuts and family-owned local shops that have been passed down through the generations, Brooklyn offers it all. Whether you live in Williamsburg or Flatbush or you are just passing through Greenpoint, Bed Stuy, or Park Slope, these doughnut shops are definitely worth the stop, especially because they won’t break the bank with their shockingly inexpensive options.

Check out this list of the 10 best doughnut shops in Brooklyn for a classic (and cheap) breakfast or dessert!

Du’s Donuts and Coffee

107 N. 12th St., Williamsburg
718-215-8770

Specially made by award-winning Chef Wylie Dufresne, Du’s Donuts are perfect for your taste buds (and your next Instagram). With wild flavors such as orange-pistachio, Nutella cherry, and PB&J, these “science-driven” cake doughnuts are priced at $3.50 each but are far worth the price. Go and enjoy a doughnut while sipping Brooklyn Roasting Company espresso, drip coffee, or cold brew.

Dough

347-533-7544
488 Lafayette Ave. (at Franklin Avenue), Bed Stuy

Head into the original location in Bed Stuy, which opened in 2010, for the essence and culture that Dough began with. While it offers a range of unique, delicious flavors inspired by the tastes of Latin America, the most popular are the salted chocolate caramel, Dulce de leche with toasted almonds, and hibiscus. Dough believes that buying a doughnut is an experience, so you can watch the doughnuts being made as you wait in line on the weekends. Pop in to try traditional yeast donuts, or get a taste of doughkas, its new offering, which is twisted yeast loaves of Eastern European Jewish tradition, inspired by the Babka.

Peter Pan Donut & Pastry Shop

718-389-3676
727 Manhattan Ave., Greenpoint

Hardly anything has changed inside the Peter Pan Donut & Pastry Shop since your grandparents frequented the shop in the 1950s. The old school pink and teal uniforms, the original prices, and the shops original signage will make you feel as if you have been transported back in time. There are no tables in the shop, only a “counter that makes you become friends with those sitting next to you,” according to the shop’s website. For about a dollar, you will get their classic, yet extensive flavors (the most popular are the glazed old fashioned or the red velvet), which are baked daily. In the summer, escape the heat and ask for a doughnut ice cream sandwich.

Dun-Well Doughnuts

347-294-0871
222 Montrose Ave., East Williamsburg

Starting with a call between two old college friends following a doughnut-filled Simpsons episode, Dun-Well Doughnuts was born. When these vegan best friends realized there were no vegan doughnut options in town, they got to work. Now with more than 200 flavors such as PB&J, cinnamon sugar, and blueberry, that have been through the building (not at the same time of course), the friends’ doughnuts have become a Williamsburg staple, and duo has expanded operations with a Lower East Side location. To stay updated on the daily, enticing flavors Dun-Well has to offer, follow @DunWellDaily on Instagram.

Maintaining the old-school décor, this no-frill mom-and-pop shop will make you feel right at home. Offering approximately 35 types and flavors from marble twist to coconut and old fashioned, the family-owned shop makes the donuts fresh twice daily. Spend under $7 for a baker’s dozen and make it your mission to try every flavor!

7th Avenue Donuts & Diner

718-768-3410
324 7th Ave., Park Slope

7th Avenue Donuts & Diner has been operating 24 hours a day for more than 40 years and still maintains the family-owned coffee shop and diner feel. The shop’s hand-made doughnuts are made every day with the same Hobart mixer that was used on day one. Bonus: You can leave the shop with a baker’s dozen for just $8.65.

Shaikh’s Place (also known as Donut Shoppe)

718-375-2572
1503 Ave U, Sheepshead Bay

Step into Shaikh’s Place, formerly known as Donut Shoppe, to get a fresh doughnut, made daily by the owner, Shaikh Kalam, for less than a dollar. This 24-hour coffee shop also recently expanded by adding tacos to the menu, a decision Kalam made to appeal to his customer and employee base, as he claims they pair well with the doughnuts.

Nostrand Donut Shop

718-826-3008
1449 Nostrand Ave, Flatbush

Classic, diner-style donuts for a low price at Nostrand Donut Shop are a Flatbush neighborhood staple that are hard to beat. Offering excellent hot food for breakfast and lunch, Nostrand has been serving the community for years. Along with the classic flavors such as Chocolate frosted, unique flavors such as toasted coconut and chocolate marble are available for $1, or a baker’s dozen is available for $6.50.

Darn Donuts

718-833-6300
8723 4th Ave, Bay Ridge

Located in Bay Ridge, Darn Donuts has been making fresh, gourmet doughnuts daily since 2016. It specializes in one-of-a-kind flavors including caramel apple pie, fruity pebble, pumpkin pie, and salted caramel and pretzels. New flavors are released often, so be sure to keep an eye out. These Instagram worthy donuts are sure to put a smile on everyone’s faces—especially kids with a sweet tooth.

Brooklyn Doughnutry

50 Malcolm X Blvd., Bed-Stuy

A local fan favorite where dulce de leche and banana walnut are among the most common doughnuts, Brooklyn Doughnutry caters to the locals in Bed-Stuy and other Brooklyn neighborhoods. The shop opened last year and currently offers 17 flavors of large doughnuts made completely from scratch in rotation for $2.50 each, as well as babka and croissants, and some drinks to quench your thirst. One of the shop’s specialties is the plain doughnut (yes, without icing!), which will leave you wondering why you have never had it before.
