Legend of Sleepy HollowDon't Lose Your Head

This version of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is unique in that audience participation is encouraged. Children can participate in school lessons with Katrina Van Tassel, become farmers with Brom, and tell ghost stories around the fire with the townspeople. The real story behind the legend of the headless horseman is revealed as well. Weekends, November 5-20. 1pm. $10; $8 children; free children younger than 3.

Wall-EElection Day Fun

Kids can spend Election Day learning about how to take care of the planet. Decorate a plant pot, then plant your own seed. Afterward, watch the film Wall-E. November 8 at 1:30pm.

We may see squirrels outside our windows everyday, but that doesn't mean we know much about them. At a program called Squirrelology, take a nature walk and learn about these critters and how they prepare for winter. November 10, 10:30-11:30am. $6.

Squirm Burpee CircusOld-Fashioned Fun

If you love to giggle while being thrilled by daring feats, you'll want to be there when The Handsome Little Devils Present Squirm Burpee Circus. This four-person circus takes you back to the days of vaudeville and features juggling, song and dance routines, silly stunts, gadgets, gizmos, and a mustache-twirling bad guy. November 13. 4pm. $15.

Montauk LighthouseGobble Gobble...Ho Ho Ho

Ready or not, Christmas comes right on the heels of Thanksgiving. So it's no surprise that local venues have events going on throughout the month celebrating both holidays. 

Donate turkeys and all the trimmings to the Bethpage Federal Credit Union's 3rd Annual Turkey Drive. Proceeds benefit Island Harvest, an umbrella organization that helps Long Island's nonprofits feed 25,000 local families. November 16. 7am. The season comes alive at the Fire Island Lighthouse Tree Trimming. Bring a handmade ornament relating to the sea, nature, or the lighthouse to add to the tree. Enjoy free hot chocolate and cookies. November 26. 10am-3pm. Then, later in the afternoon, work off some of those calories and catch the sunset during the Thanksgiving Weekend Evening Tower Tour. Reservations required. 4pm. $15. A special guest turns on the Christmas lights in Lighting the Lighthouse, while you enjoy holiday music, caroling, and a visit from Santa. November 26 (rain date December 3). 4:30-7pm. The next day, enjoy Christmas at the Lighthouse, complete with cider and snacks. The gift shop is open and pony rides and Santa are on hand for little ones. November 27. 11am-4pm. Educators from RARE (Rare Animals Really Endangered) suggest ways to help clean up the planet in Thanksgiving Origami: Be a Green Hero workshop, where you can enjoy a fun origami craft-making session. Paper Bag Players in Laugh, Laugh, LaughBelly Full of Laughs

It may be full, but hopefully your belly can still withstand a few chuckles during Laugh, Laugh Laugh, a Paper Bag Players presentation. This is an all-new production with an original story and sing-along songs, but the costumes and sets will be familiar to Paper Bag fans. November 26. 2pm. $16; $13 children.
