Golden Harvest Pantry Holding a Holiday Market Fundraiser on December 14

The fundraiser will showcase the crafts, baked goods, and handmade products of more than 20 vendors.

Golden Harvest Food Pantry and the Northeast Brooklyn Housing Development Corporation (NEBHDCo) will hold their first Holiday Market Fundraiser on Dec. 14, complete with 20 local vendors offering their crafts, baked goods, cosmetics and other handmade products for the upcoming holidays. Community Programs at NEBHDCo will sell food and hot drinks to eat and drink on site or take out and will sell raffle tickets where everyone can win amazing prizes. All proceeds from food, drinks, and raffle tickets will support initiatives that Community Programs at NEBHDCo offers year-round to the community.

The Community Programs Department provides resources to help people find healthy food and living opportunities, as well as tenant and community supports. NEBHDCo's client choice food pantry, which has been operating since 2014, has placed an increased focus on local fresh produce. The Access to Healthy Food and Nutrition Education Initiative includes nutrition, cooking, and gardening classes for the community, and last summer offered a free summer gardening program for kids.

This fall, NEBHDCo partnered with Food Bank and NY Cares to offer a Green Sidewalk Program, where it distributed fresh produce free of charge once a week. Tenant and community supports in Brooklyn are also based at the pantry, with both onsite and referral services. These supports include: virtual tax preparation, SNAP enrollment, immigration services, legal services, health screenings and insurance information, and NYC Rent Freeze Program for Seniors (SCRIE) assistance.

The holiday market aims to bring the community together and provide affordable vending space to all the vendors in the neighborhood.

“I am truly excited for the opportunity for Brooklyn to experience Everything Chriss' sorrel at the holiday market," said Christina James, a vendor. "What has been enjoyed by friends and family for years will now get exposure in the greater community as a whole."

The holiday market fundraiser will take place at 378 Throop Ave. Community Room in Bedford-Stuyvesant from 10am-4pm on Saturday, Dec. 14. There will be a craft table for kids so they can prepare their own decorations and Santa will be around and ready to take pictures with kids. For more information on the market, contact Dagmar Kostkova at 718-453-9490 or email [email protected].
