CrossFit Sunset Park Now Offering Classes For Children Ages 5 to 17

CrossFit Sunset Park, a fitness center in Sunset Park, is now offering CrossFit classes for children ages 5 to 17. CrossFit is a fitness regimen that incorporates a mix of physical activities, including interval training, gymnastic and calisthenics.

The classes started July 2 and are divided into three age groups: 5 to 9 years old, 10 to 12 years old, and 13 to 17 years old. The excercises the participants will be doing are aimed at teaching proper movement and improving endurance, stamina, cardiovascular capacity, strength, flexibility and overall conditioning. Training consists of teaching fundamental body movements as well as basic gymnastics. Most excercises involve only body weight, although children will also learn how to use a pullup bar, rowers, jump ropes, light wall balls, and boxes for jumping onto.

According to the staff, all of these activities provide benefits in daily functioning, give kids a physical foundation to excel at sports and teach them that regular excercise is important.

Teen classes will be more structured with longer training components. When the staff deems them ready, the teens will be introduced to weighted excercises, and the strength and gymnastic training will advance as their skill level advances.

The CrossFit staff recommends children attend at least two classes per week to enhance their learning experience and create a routine. The center offers the first class for free.

All teachers at CrossFit go through a rigorous training program that includes passing a test. To teach children, trainers must go through an additional training program nad pass a government background check.

More information about the facility, programs, and pricing is available on the CrossFit Sunset Park website.
