New Dance Exhibit Opens at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan

The Children’s Museum of Manhattan recently opened a new exhibit that teaches children about the different forms of dance.

Let’s Dance! gives children the opportunity to not only learn about dance but also to dance along with famous dance companies via a “dance portal” projection dome, according to a press release.

The exhibition is open through December. Participation is free with museum admission.

“Let’s Dance!, like all our Gateway to the Arts programs, is designed to introduce children and families to the arts and to improve cultural equity by bringing a diverse array of New York City arts and cultural institutions to the Museum,” said Andrew Ackerman, the Children’s Museum’s executive director, in a press release.

The new exhibit features daily workshops and live performances. At Let’s Dance! kids can experiment with different instruments, learn new dance moves, choreograph dance patterns while learning the language of dance, and be inspired by photography and video that celebrate the breadth of the dance world. They can also design tap shoes and learn dances inspired by superhero theme songs.

“We believe the innovative combination of exhibition and programming found in Let’s Dance! will also pique the interest of new audiences and develop advocates for the amazing performers and arts organizations found across our city,” Ackerman said.

Let’s Dance! adds to the museum’s commitment to the arts as an important part of early childhood development. Research has shown that dance boosts children’s confidence, memory, social skills, and happiness, while creating a fun and healthy environment. For more about the Let's Dance! exhibit, visit CMOM's website
