Diocese of Rockville Centre to Hold Open Forum for Parents

Diocese of Rockville Centre to Hold Open Forum for Parents

The next open forum is being held on Oct. 19.

The Diocese of Rockville Centre is hosting ‘Making Connections’ informal group meetings between parents, the Superintendent of Schools and selected staff members. They forums are regularly attended by 30-40 parents from Catholic schools all over Long Island. There is typically a presentation to inform the parents on one aspect of their children’s schools, followed by an open forum where the successes and challenges facing different schools can be shared with other parents and superintendent. The next session will be held on Oct. 19.

“The bottom line is that Long Island’s Catholic schools consider ourselves to be in partnership with the parents, the original educators of all children,” says Gary Layton, director of marketing for Diocese of Rockville Centre. “Together with the parents we set high expectations for the students, then work cooperatively to help each student achieve to the limits of their ability.”

‘Making Connections’ is one of the many ways that the Diocese of Rockville Centre aims to keep parents involved with their child’s school experience. Parents also have opportunities to volunteer at their child’s independent schools to assure safety upon arrival and departure of school, to keep the playground safe, and to help serve lunch. ‘Move as One’ engages parents to help in the marketing of their school locally. A marketing committee is organized by the principal, where parents can be involved in the outreach and public relations of their child’s school.

Meetings are held on Saturday mornings from 9-11am. The next three meetings will be held on Oct. 19, Nov. 16, and Dec. 14 at the Diocese of Rockville Centre Education Office at 128 Cherry Lane in Hicksville.
