New York International Children's Film Festival Launches Five Borough Tour

New York International Children’s Film Festival recently announced it will be taking Best of the Fest 2017, highlights from its award-winning festival, on tour around New York City. Events will be held from October through December at cultural institutions in each of the five boroughs and celebrate the festival's 20th anniversary.    

"It's always been important to us to provide all New York City children with access to our acclaimed programming. And it is even more significant that we get to do that in partnership with organizations that share our belief that young people can appreciate sophisticated, intelligent film," said Nina Guralnick, executive director, in a press release.

The Best of the Fest touring program currently offers two unique programs comprised of several short films. Kid Flix 1 is recommended for children ages 3-7 and Kid Flix 2 is recommended for children ages 8 and older, including adults. Kid Flix 1 features Audience Award Winners Tiger and Stone Soup in addition to several other highly rated short films. In Stone Soup, a diverse community comes together during a power outage to share a meal. 

Kid Flix 2 includes the 2017 Grand Prize Winner Heads Together, the Grown-ups Award winner Riceballs, and Audience Award winner Welcome to my Life. In Heads Together, an animated short, a diverse group of friends switch heads and must learn to adapt to each other’s lives. Riceballs is a live-action short film set in Australia about a Japanese father who struggles to pass on his heritage to his son.
