Infant Ibuprofen from CVS, Walmart, and Family Dollar Has Been Recalled

The over-the-counter infant ibuprofen sold by CVS, Family Dollar, and Walmart was recalled.

A recall has been issued for over-the-counter infant ibuprofen sold by the retailers CVS, Family Dollar, and Walmart, according to Tris Pharma. The Concentrated Oral Suspension, USP (NSAID) 50mg per 1.25mL could potentially have concentrations of ibuprofen that are too high and therefore dangerous.

This liquid pain reliever is meant for infants 6 months-23 months old. It is possible that infants who are more susceptible to a higher potency level of drug may be more vulnerable to permanent NSAID-associated renal injury. Negative effects that one may experience include nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, and diarrhea. Tinnitus, headache, and gastrointestinal bleeding are also possible.

The recalled lots include the pain reliever/ fever reducers listed below:

  • Equate: Infants’ Ibuprofen Concentrated Oral Suspension, USP (NSAID), 50mg per 1.25 mL 0.5 oz. bottle (sold by Wal-Mart)
  • CVS Health: Infants’ Ibuprofen Concentrated Oral Suspension, USP (NSAID), 50mg per 1.25 mL, 0.5 oz. bottle (sold by CVS)
  • Family Wellness: Infants’ Ibuprofen Concentrated Oral Suspension, USP (NSAID), 50 mg per 1.25 mL, 0.5 oz. bottle

Tris Pharma has not received any reports of negative events related to the product as of yesterday.

For more information regarding the recall, you can contact Tris Customer Service at 732-940-0358 or via email. Contact your physician or healthcare provider if you have experienced any problems that may be a result of ingesting this drug
