Forest Hills Learning Center Focuses on English Language Arts

Marie Marrone, former English Language Arts teacher, recently opened Quantum Leap Kids Learning Center to give kids the writing skills they aren't getting in today's school curriculum. Marrone also offers two morning programs for 2 1/2-year-olds to provide the foundation needed for learning to read.

A fifth grade student enrolled in My ELA Coach Program Marie Marrone was a teacher for 25 years and a private tutor for three years before opening Quantum Leap Kids Learning Center in May. Marrone found that children are having a hard time with the increased amount of writing in today’s school curriculum. Her focus at Quantum Leap Kids Learning Center is the writing and English lessons that kids enrolled in third through seventh grade aren’t getting. Marrone compiled her former lesson plans into what she calls blocks of learning.

“I focus on each element and work through each one up to the next one so students have a foundation under their wings,” Marrone says.

Marrone teaches grammar, vocabulary enrichment, spelling patterns and rules, literary critical thinking, and “anything that corresponds with [English Language Arts] testing,” she says. Each block of learning is 90 minutes long and has four to six kids. Parents have the option of enrolling their kids in one or two blocks a week— classes are offered Monday-Saturday. Parents can start enrolling their children in thefall program on Aug. 15.

Marrone has two morning programs for 2½-year-olds—reading readiness and a playtime program—in which Marrone provides the framework element for children to begin learning how to read.

Marrone is ELA certified and can teach children who are language learners or multi-cultural, as long as they are enrolled in school and engaged in the classroom, she says.
