New Residential Summer Camp for Children with Special Needs

New Residential Summer Camp for Children with Special Needs

Reece School will be launching a residential summer camp, Camp Reece, at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs this July.

Reece School is a nonprofit special education elementary school in New York City that was founded in 1948 by Ellen S. Reece.

Camp Reece aims to serve children on the autism spectrum, those with learning or intellectual disabilities, and those who are psychologically fragile. The staff will strive to help campers develop social, leadership, team building, communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and self-efficiency skills.

The Camp Reece staff, including counselors in the fields of reading, language, counseling, and physical and occupational therapy, will provide services tailored to the individual strengths and needs of each child. The counselors are college students and college graduates and the related-service staff are licensed or certified in their fields.

Campers will participate in a traditional sleepaway camp experience including sports, adventures, and the arts. While all campers are encouraged to participate in every field, they'll be able to focus on an area of interest.

Programs will include photography, organic gardening, white-water rafting, biking, tennis, swimming, and more.

The first camp session will run from July 2 to July 22 and the second session from July 23 to Aug. 12. Campers can also attend the whole period from July 2 to Aug. 12. Transportation to the camp can be provided.

Reece School is located at at 25 E. 104th St. in Manhattan, for more information call 212-289-4872 x104, or visit campreece.org.
