Vintage Candy Shop Opens in South Slope

Vintage Candy Shop Opens in South Slope

Fferins of Brooklyn, a new retro candy store featuring hard-to-find treats, just opened its doors.

You could run to the convenience store to grab a chocolate bar or a bag of jelly beans—but its way more fun to head to Fferins of Brooklyn, the new candy store in South Slope.

The confectionary has offerings from other Brooklyn stapes—ice cream from Blue Marble, Salty Road salt water taffy from Sunset Park, Anya's all-natural licorice from Williamsburg, and Raaka chocolate from Red Hook, for example—as well as more unique items from around the world, including the full line of Cadbury Chocolate, Starbar, Maltesers, and Teacakes. The shop will also have old-school treats not readily available anymore.

"My partner is from the U.K. and we couldn't find certain items here that we missed," owner Lindsay McGrath told TimeOut. "We all lived there until a couple of years ago and that's sort of where the idea and inspiration came from. We want to give [customers] an experience they might not have otherwise had."

Fferins (a Welsh word meaning "sweets" and pronounced "fair-ins") offers a pick-and-mix deal, where shoppers can stock up on their favorite treats for $6.75 per 1/2 pound. And the owners have expansion plans already—the store will offer catering and birthday parties in the future.

"I want to ask people what they want," owner Haley McGrath told Bklyner. "A few people have been in already askign me to get things for them. We welcome any suggestions."

Some current customer requests? Dark chocolate Bounty bars and Dutch licorice.
