Families Can Volunteer at Fall Citywide Stewardship Day

Families Can Volunteer at Fall Citywide Stewardship Day

NYC families can do their part to help the environment during Stewardship Day on Saturday, October 22, according to the official website of the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation.

The NYC Stewardship Team are volunteers who help with forest and wetland restoration, planting and pruning street trees, harvesting and propagating native seed and monitoring local wildlife.  They will be hosting opportunities for individuals, groups and families to come out on October 22 and help care for the city’s urban forests. Everyone will be trained in identifying and removing harmful flora that threaten young trees and shrubs, and provide protection for years to come.

The event will be held from 9am – 1pm at these locations:

  • Canarsie Park in Brooklyn
  • Conference House Park in Staten Island
  • Inwood Hill Park in Manhattan
  • Willow Lake in Queens

For those who decide to attend, it’s advised that you wear opened boots or durable sneakers (no open toed shoes or sandals). Long pants are also highly recommended, along with clothes that can get muddy or dirty.

Space is limited and registration is required for this event. Go to nycgovparks.org to register and for more info.
