One River School Launches Hero Project in Response to Coronavirus

One River School Launches Hero Project in Response to Coronavirus

Students in kindergarten and older will create monochromatic paintings of people they consider heroes to be showcased in a virtual exhibition.

One River School of Art + Design in Larchmont recently announced the launch of a Hero Project in response to coronavirus, for which about 1,000 students will be creating monochromatic acrylic paintings of their heroes to be displayed in a virtual exhibition. One River has raised awareness of breast cancer with the Pink Project and autism with the Puzzle Project in the past. Students in kindergarten through adulthood can participate in the Hero Project. Artistic inspiration will come from contemporary artists Shepard Fairey & Kehinde Wiley. One River will provide paints, canvases and brushes. Students will get to choose who in their communities have made an impact on them during this time.

Beyond the virtual exhibition, which will showcase all students’ work, Larchmont students’ pieces will also be displayed at the Ridge Hill Mall in Yonkers. To participate in the project, your child should join a virtual and in-person class at One River.

One River’s programs are built for students of all ages and skill levels and teaches thousands of students in twelve schools across six states. They also host 70 weekly summer camps for students of all ages. For more information on programming and classes, visit the One River website.
