Incognoli started studying the model in 2007 when he participated in his first one-week mentorship program with Miller, followed by two more in 2009 and 2011. He learned the techniques he uses now from those programs. "She is the leading researcher in sensory processing dysfunction and I was honored to be personally mentored by her during my fellowship this summer," he says. "She is where the model is derived from. It's very all-inclusive...I want to see children functioning independently in all environments: at school, at home, with family. I want to increase the child's independence in his or her every day life."
