'Kode With Klossy' STEM Summer Camps for Girls Comes to New York City Summer 2018

'Kode With Klossy' STEM Summer Camps for Girls Comes to New York City Summer 2018

As of today, applications for Kode With Klossy Summer 2018 are now open.

Kode With Klossy, the nonprofit coding summer camps for girls founded by model and entrepreneur Karlie Kloss, is coming to New York City this summer, according to a press release. Launched in 2015, Kode With Klossy empowers girls by familiarizing them with software engineering and how to become leaders in the tech world.

The two-week coding camps are free for girls ages 13 to 18 and will introduce them to the fundamentals of programming languages such as Ruby, Javascript, HTML, CSS and Swift.

Participants in the past have built applications designed to treat ADHD, supported girls looking for local tech mentors, and more. All girls will leave the program having built a fully functional app or website and will present the finished product to their peers, family, and other members of the tech community.

“What we do at Kode With Klossy goes beyond teaching computer science,” said Kode With Klossy founder Karlie Kloss according to a press release. “We empower our scholars to use their coding skills to make a difference in their communities.”

Kode With Klossy is expanding its borders by providing 1,000 scholarships this summer as well as increasing the number of camps from 15 in 12 cities last summer to 50 in 25 across the country. This summer, the camp will also partner with Teach for America to recruit and hire 50 instructors to lead the camps. In partnership with guest speakers, the Kode With Klossy instructors facilitate conversations about closing the gender gap in STEM related careers.
