Music Conservatory of Westchester Now Auditioning for MCW Prep Program

The program is slated to begin in September and will offer auditions until then.

Music Conservatory of Westchester is now offering a pre-collegiate training program for serious, advanced high school musicians called MCW Prep, slated to begin in September. The program will give instrumentalists and singers an opportunity to study with performers of the New York Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and Broadway. Auditions are scheduled by appointment through September and scholarships will be offered based on need.

High school students (9th graders through 12th graders) are invited to take their private instrument (violin, viola, cello, clarinet, and flute) or vocal lessons with teachers from renowned musical stages as well as training in performing ensembles and college-level music theory.

“With musicians at this level, we’ll really be able to advise students who are considering a professional career in music,” says Jean Newton, executive director of Music Conservatory of Westchester. “We advise them on all of the variant aspects and challenges involved in pursuing this type of career, helping them with their selection of schools to apply to, their auditions, and so on.”

Each student will have the opportunity to put together a custom schedule that works for them. Start dates for the program are also flexible and auditions will continue to be held through the end of September.

“[The program] is really special to us and it’s something we’ve been thinking about for a number of years,” says Newton. “I like to think of the conservatory as truly serving the community, and that means serving the musical interests of all different kinds of people, including those who are really serious and really talented.”
